Product Details

Catch a Phantom! The McDonnell F-4 Phantom II twinjet was one of the most versatile fighters ever built, with top speeds more than twice the speed of sound. Both the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and Air Force Thunderbirds flight demonstration teams flew the Phantom II in the 1960s and 1970s. More than 5,000 Phantom IIs were built after the plane entered service in 1961, serving with the air forces of 11 countries in addition to the United States. This artifact is a genuine tailhook from a Phantom II. Attached to the rear of the fighter, the tailhook latches onto a cable on the runway or aircraft-carrier flight deck to help the airplane rapidly decelerate. It's a necessity in the event of drag chute failure or other mechanical failure. This tailhook has been cleaned and refurbished, fitted with a piece of 1.25"-diameter 6x27 twisted wire cable, and placed in a custom base made from steel with a matte black powder coating. The bottom of the base is covered in non-scratching felt material to protect furniture. Each piece is unique and may vary slightly from photograph. Measures approximately 12.5" x 12.5" x 6.5". Weighs approximately 40 lb 8 oz. Made in U.S.A. NOT FOR FLIGHT USE.
