B-17 Feather Bearing Table

Item No. "667066010438"

Product Details

The legendary Boeing B-17 bomber carried a huge array of machine guns and bombs, earning the sturdy monoplane the name by which it is still known today: The Flying Fortress. During World War II, the B-17 was feared by its enemies - who called it a "four-engine fighter" -- and loved by its crews, whom the Flying Fortress brought safely home even after sustaining heavy battle damage. Few of the more than 12,000 B-17s built survive today. This beautiful table is built around a genuine feather bearing from a retired B-17 Flying Fortress. The feather bearing adjusts the pitch in the propeller to maintain optimum angle of attack at all speeds. Our craftspeople set the bearing into a tabletop of rough-sawn Jatoba hardwood that was sanded and polished for a rich visual texture and soft feel. The traditional Boeing totem is laser-cut into black gloss acrylic in the center of the bearing. The tabletop is attached to an industrial-welded steel frame with a smoke-tinted clear powder-coat finish to create a stunning museum-quality piece. A Certificate of Authenticity is included. Measures 62.25"L x 18.25"W x 30.25"H. Weighs 185 lb. Made in U.S.A. *NOTE: This artifact is sold as is with no guarantee that parts maintain original function. Not for flight use.*
